Following today's initial hearing in the High Court, it has been confirmed that all five of the cases will proceed to a full judicial review in March 2019. The review will take place over 10 days. Some areas of duplication will be taken together. The sixth case, by an individual from Birmingham, was dropped some weeks ago.

This is also the day of a global action on climate change, so in the afternoon there will be the opportunity to join a visual action, part of the global ‘Rise for the Climate’ mobilisation. At the end of an extraordinary summer, this will highlight the need for urgent action to break free from fossil fuels. Find out more

We’ll be looking back at the past year and plans for the future. We will also be electing members of the steering group of the campaign. The steering group meets around 5 times a year and is responsible for the strategic direction and financial management of the Campaign against Climate Change. Members also contribute actively to the campaign according to their own skills and interests.

The UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) is holding talks right now to decide whether to tackle shipping carbon emissions or carry on with planet-wrecking business as usual. If the shipping industry were a country it would be the sixth largest polluter. The negotiations are vulnerable to hijack by corporate interests. And with some countries holding out against any caps on CO2, the final deal might be a weak compromise that would fail to tackle pollution and risk sinking the Paris agreement.

While climate activists try and get governments to engage meaningfully with their commitments under the Paris climate deal, it's easy to forget that two major industrial sectors were excluded from the deal - aviation and shipping.
In April, negotiators will come to London from around the world to decide on climate targets for the shipping industry. While Pacific islands and some European nations are pushing for high ambition, other proposals on the table have no meaningful emissions cuts. These talks usually go under the radar and have been described as 'captured by corporations' but we can't afford for that to happen this time. Meanwhile, the aviation industry does have an international agreement to cut emissions - but it has holes so big you could fly a jumbo jet through it. And the UK government is determined to push through a third runway at Heathrow despite the Committee on Climate Change repeatedly pointing out that this would presumably make us miss our climate targets. With MPs voting on the third runway this summer, Cait Hewitt of the Aviation Environment Federation will help unravel the misinformation and spin to understand what's at stake.

At the current UN climate talks in Bonn, news has broken that Syria (following Nicaragua) will be signing the Paris climate deal, leaving US isolated in its intention to leave.
To mark one year since Trump's election, we went to the US embassy with a reminder of the consequences of inaction on climate change. The images from recent climate-related disasters wildfires in California and British Columbia, of devastation from hurricanes across Caribbean islands and of flooded Houston show just a few of the impacts of climate change we are seeing now. From melting ice sheets at the poles to scorching drought in East Africa, our climate is destabilising fast.
Trump's actions are set to usher in a much greater toll of human suffering and ecological devastation through climate change. One thing is clear - we cannot let him do this, nor can we accept half-hearted responses from other governments. Join us for a simple action to mark our solidarity with those affected by climate change today and call for urgent action.
This event is formed on the platform that the G20 defends a system that boosts social inequality. During the summit, the links between global problems will be highlighted and alternatives that can provide a solution will be discussed. During 12 panel discussions and more than 70 workshops, scientists, activists and polititians from all over the world will share their criticism of the ruling policies and theiralternatives, and discuss strategies to realise a solidarity-oriented world.

This training session is a follow-up from the successful Conference on Climate Refugees on Saturday 11 February 2017 to continue its energy and committment. The session, run by Friends of the Earth, will help participants understand the rights of climate refugees through the UN's Paris Agreement and develop a campaigning strategy for 2017.
It is a free event but please book in advance as there are limited spaces available.

In the UK, May's government are continuing a programme of climate action cut-backs, while pushing through damaging infrastructure such as fracking and a third runway at Heathrow.
In the US, Trump is slashing funding for climate science and preparing to force through disastrous projects such as the Keystone XL and Dakota Access Pipelines.
