Already, many communities in the UK and across the world are being affected. The political response has been pitiful and successive COP conferences have failed to materialise into action. It is time for the Trade Union movement to fully join the Climate resistance. The time is now. Climate Themed Learning Week is supported by UCU, NEU, NUS, and the TES. The week will run from 10th February to 14th February. The aim is for schools, colleges and other education institutions to integrate into that weeks learning the theme of the climate and ecological crisis, with colleges and schools focusing on a week of learning and activities related to understanding the climate and ecological crisis.
It aims to respond to the demand for a curriculum which matches the urgency of the climate crisis. The focus of the week will be to allow teachers to work with young people in order to give a glimpse of a curriculum in which young people are informed and empowered to address the urgency of the crisis.

So what is 'COP26'? The Conference of the Parties, or COP, is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its 195 member countries meet annually for 2 weeks to, in theory, get to grips with the climate crisis. The '26' demonstrates that this will be the 26th such event. Seriously, this has been going on for decades...

We must make it clear that Boris Johnson will not get away with greenwash. Distant targets won’t do: we demand climate justice action now.

The UN climate negotiations have been moved at short notice from Chile to Madrid, in response to anti-government protests. Holding the talks in Europe again mean the voices of Global South activists and communities in the front line of climate change are pushed again to the margins.
The people of Chile are standing up against the linked injustices they face - neoliberal exploitation and inequality, climate-linked drought, and extractivism of natural resources including water. As mass climate demonstrations take place in Madrid and Chile, here in the UK, we commit to stand alongside frontline communities in Chile, and everywhere. In 2020 we will work across the climate justice movement and with civil society to place climate justice demands front and centre when the UN climate talks come to Glasgow in one year's time.
On Friday 6 December, there will be a solidarity vigil in London, organised by Campaign against Climate Change, the Chilean People's Assembly in London, War on Want, UKSCN, the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, Migrants Organise and Biofuelwatch. Speakers will include Sergio Cubillos, the President of Atacameños Peoples council in Chile, and Victor Salinas, an expert on geography, the environment and decentralisation in rural Chile.
