Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change Energy Bill Stunt

Sunday 2nd June, 14.15-15.00

Various locations in Holmfirth, Kirklees, Huddersfield, meeting at the benched area diagonally opposite Jason McCartney’s constituency office on Huddersfield Road.

Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change are doing a final stunt in Holmfirth involving mourners in front of a gravestone, on the “eve” of the vote on the ‘clean energy target’ amendments to the Energy Bill.

The gravestone will be in memory of the different things ‘killed by a dirty energy bill’ (CO2 cuts, jobs, affordable and secure energy) and people will act as mourners looking at the grave. They will give out the remaining fifty or sixty fliers from our ‘clean energy vigil’ which provide information about the vote and urge people to contact their MP through the 38 Degrees website.

If you would like to join in, they’d be grateful if you could wear black or black and white. Please feel free to bring flowers if you’d like to put them ‘on’ the grave.

Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change have contacted Jason McCartney to ask him to tell us his position on this vote. They will run the stunt regardless of his position, on the basis that there may well be constituents of a number of MPs in Holmfirth on that afternoon and to raise awareness of the Bill more generally.

Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change will be contacting Jason McCartney before the stunt to let him know that it will be happening and will send him photos of the stunt later that day.

Please feel free to turn up and join in! If you would like to be informed of cancellations (e.g due to poor weather or illness), please email Kirklees Campaign Against Climate Change your mobile phone number by 12pm on Saturday 1st June.

You can also organise your own vigil using the clean energy vigil pack below!
