"Climate change is perhaps the gravest calamity our species has ever encountered. Its impact dwarfs that of any war, any plague, any famine we have confronted so far. It makes genocide and ethnic cleansing look like sideshows at the circus of human suffering."
"We need to put climate change right at the top of the political agenda — it is by far the biggest threat to humanity. We have to turn this into the primary political campaign. That means keeping on the streets, keeping up the demonstrations and putting an enormous amount of pressure on our politicians."

For the last 35 years Daniel Sharf has worked as a town and country planner in the public, private and voluntary sectors and also as teacher and blogger (www.dantheplan.blogspot.com). He joined the steering group in 2009 to assist with the Emergency Demand for a 55mph national speed limit, having been an advocate of this regime change under "GreenSpeed " since 1995 (20>55> bumper stickers still available). Daniel believes that this systemic change to the national speed limit would be the quickest, fairest and cheapest way of reducing GHG emissions, and one that would have many other environmental and social benefits. Other green and carbon cutting ideas can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/pauseforthought/home/ |

Peter Robinson was born in South Africa, his parents were imprisoned under the Apartheid, and they came to the UK in the early sixties. He worked as a political organiser in Portugal, after the overthrow of fascism in 1975 and 1976. He became involved (as a socialist and not as a ‘green’) in climate activities and in 2005 helped found the Derby Campaign against Climate Change (now Derby Climate Coalition). The group set out to focus upon the council and the city strategies, away from the emphasis on life style politics, and was able to persuade the council to cuts its own carbon emission by 25% over 5 years. Amongst other achievements the coalition became very involved in the Bombardier dispute and drawing the connections between trade unions, the railway infrastructure and combating climate change. Peter was national chairperson of Campaign against Climate Change for several years and helped found, and is secretary of, the Climate Alliance for Jobs and Climate. |

Danya Harris Communications Intern
Danya got involved with campaigning because she wanted to work for an organisation that
makes a positive impact. She feels that someone needs to ensure that governments act in
the interests of the population and planet, whilst holding them to account, a role she feels that
environmental campaigning fulfils.
Before coming to CCC she spent time as campaign volunteer at 38 Degrees and edited
an online magazine at the Open Rights Group. She studied Philosophy at Leeds and then
did a MA in Health Care Ethics. When she isn't campaigning she helps run a catering business in Cambridge.
